Fyrecon 6 Scholarships, 2022

Stories serve many functions: entertain, enlighten, warn, create wonder, explore, educate, recall, and so much more. The best stories combine multiple elements to create unforgettable magic. We want more of this magic!

When crafting your flash fiction scholarship submissions this year keep “AND” in mind. We want stories that take concepts that are usually opposite AND place them together to create a stronger whole. Give us stories that warn “AND” create wonder. Stories that enlighten and entertain.

Or craft stories where you take normally conflicting elements “AND” make them stronger when they are combined. Angels AND demons is an obvious example, but we want stories that go beyond the obvious.

Embrace the power of the “AND” in your stories.

Create images that show a dichotomy of concepts or characters. Like an angel walking through hell. A fire dragon sitting at the ocean’s shore. A robot surrounded by fairies. The light with the dark. The bright with the dull. The serious with the comedic.

Bring the power of AND into your illustrations.
