Fyrecon, unlike other writing conferences, has a very low membership fee. We want to make the conference as accessible to aspiring authors and artists as possible. As a result, to offer this specialized service, we directly charge those participating in the event. This pays for the agents’ and editors’ time and travel and allows them to know who is serious about the next step.

The cost for Master Classes is based on the length of the class, the instructor, and the instructor’s time and travel. We want to bring in the best to teach these in-depth classes and that comes at a cost. Master Class registration includes general admission.

Some of these instructors teach their own weekend and weeklong sessions, and Master Classes provide you the opportunity to sample these classes at a fraction of the cost.

Dragons and Phoenixes are creatures of fire. Their legends die and are reborn across cultures and time–fires that never end. We refer to our artists as Phoenixes and our writers as Dragons. Both groups create new myths.

As phoenixes are legends reborn from the ashes of life and fire, we believe that artists, especially those in science fiction and fantasy, constantly recreate themselves through their art. Their creative works ignite the creative fire in others, propelling us on to new horizons.

Traditionally, dragons are the keepers of knowledge and wealth. At Fyrecon we believe that writers, especially those of science fiction and fantasy, are the same. They keep and record the wealth of stories we have not lived yet. Their words hold the keys to new ideas and the realities yet to be.
